FAVOURITES had a field day winning three of the four cup events as well as both the support races at the horse racing in Sakhir yesterday. The feature races were for the Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cups. Shaikh Khalid is the president of the Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation.
The horse racing day was also marked by a variety of programmes which lasted the whole day and was witnessed by Shaikh Khalid and other top ranking officials.
Scrutable, owned by Fahad Ahmed Khalil Ali, trained by Yahya Falah and ridden by Gerald Avranche, won the Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for imported horses which carried a cash prize of BD2,000 beating Muraweg by one-and-one-fourth-length. Aakef was third and True Eent fourth.
Another favourite Mr Tango, owned by Al Montasir, trained by Alan Smith and ridden by Adrie De Vries, won the Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for locally bred horses, which also carried a cash prize of BD2,000, beating Zayyir by half-a-length. Kaidad was third and Blue Mountain fourth.
Aaim To Storm, owned by Asad Ahmed Al Binwaan, trained by Fawzi Nass and riden by Ali Abdulla, created the only upset of the day when it beat Best Explorer by three-fourth-length to win the Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for imported horses which carried a cash prize of BD1,000. Nasyaan was third and Absent Pleasure fourth.
Pipped
Style Alliance, owned by Al Nasseriyeh, trained by Alan Smith and ridden by Adrie de Vries, pipped Jock The Scott by a neck to win the Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for locally bred horses which also carried a cash prize of BD1,000. Naurain was third and One Way fourth.
Rabdaan 1276, owned by Al Wasmiya, trained by Abdulla Kuwaiti and ridden by Ali Al Saffar, set the tone for the favourites winning the opening race of the day which was for Arabian horses beating Al Hamdaany 1349 by four lengths. Krayaan 1441 was third and Kuheilaan Al Adiyat 1438 fourth.
Sampi, owned by Sarah Abdulla Kuwaiti, trained by Abdulla Kuwaiti and ridden by Patrick Donagly, won the race for imported horses, which carried a cash prize of BD1,000, beating Life's Challenge by a length. Rath Maeve was third and Solo Attempt fourth.
